Lost 2016

OK it's almost 2016 time to plan a Lost rallie! I would like to host one this year. I hosted the first Lost rallie sept of 2007. Lost has been a fun ongoing event. I've missed the past few rallies due to lack of running bikes. Starting point will be Polo Illinois with a nice ride thru savanna to galena. This ride will mimic the first Lost rallie with a few Minor changes. This time I plan on not getting lost (I did say plan). I will be checking into room options and plan on running my smoker for the first night.

This posted 8 days ago and no one has posted anything?
Everyone hibernating?

A bit early for working people to plan that far ahead.

I do have some friends in Cullom though.

I have the '77 CB400F Super Sport. That was my zoomer when I was a kid. Pulled-away from Camaros and Mustangs. At the next light, they asked what it was, lol. Still get that on my XS11.

PorterTheCelt 03-31-2016 03:02 PM

I am newly XSive, and look forward to meeting others. Are these events open to other riders as well? I have a few buddies who would enjoy a good bike ride.

IanDMacDonald 03-31-2016 05:18 PM

Absolutely! Safe and responsible riders are encouraged to enjoy the ride as-well!

PorterTheCelt 03-31-2016 06:28 PM

Fantastic. I'll be watching for updates on our regional rallies.

But of course you would never exceed the posted speed limit on that XS would you Ian. :D

Bigfoot 04-14-2016 08:23 PM

I was sorta hoping for a return to the UP. Beautiful up there.

You either huh Harry? But then, even if you did out run him all he needed to do is follow the smoke from the toasting wiring. :D

You get that fixed yet?

Bigfoot 04-14-2016 08:47 PM

No, everything works fine, just no brake light. LOL, its on my To-Do list. I will finally have a garage starting tomorrow, so once i get moved, will tear into it.

NorCoaster 06-23-2016 08:21 PM

Have you guys ever had the rally along Minnesota's north shore? Could start in Duluth, head up to Grand Marais, swing through Ely and the Boundary Waters, veer north towards Rainy Lake and Lake of the Woods, and finally bomb back to Duluth and finish with some of the best beer in the world...made with Lake Superior's crystal clear water...

cruiser 06-25-2016 07:56 AM

Never been a Lost Rally in that area. A few of us did the Circle Tour of Superior counter clockwise ending in Duluth after the Lost Rally in Hayward Wi. We enjoyed the Skyline Parkway and Canal Park. I would be interested in coming back to the area. August? It is a beautiful area.

NorCoaster 06-26-2016 08:10 PM

An August ride through that country would be gorgeous and there are plenty of little campgrounds and motels all over the place that we could choose from. Aim for a little later in the month and fall colors will have already started coming out in the northern reaches of the route I have in mind

cruiser 06-26-2016 09:01 PM

You had me at "best beer" lol
I've hosted a couple Lost rally's so can offer some suggestions. Pick a date to see interest. Route around 200 miles.
Hopefully some others will jump in with interest.

NorCoaster 06-26-2016 09:42 PM

Hahahaha Yea, our beer is pretty damn delicious and you can't get it once you hit a certain distance away from the big lake...watershed laws.

Anyway, 200 miles covers hardly any ground up here. It would have to be 400-500(a full weekend's worth of riding) to really see the area.

Here's the route I have so far...I got limited on stops(Thanks, Google!). Coming straight back to Duluth from Grand Rapids on Hwy 2 is pretty boring...but would put it at 425mi total

cruiser 07-13-2016 08:57 PM

Any thoughts on dates yet?

NorCoaster 07-19-2016 10:53 AM

I'm thinking the second or third week of August because, well, I'm moving back to the west coast by the end of August...

werdna80 07-20-2016 09:09 PM

I wouldn't mind going, Haven't been to a rally yet. Looks like a nice ride!
Keep me posted.

FM-USA 07-26-2016 11:04 PM

.

Are there set day[s], where and when yet?

.

NorCoaster 07-27-2016 02:32 PM

Alright, alright! Haha Aug 19-21 is the weekend that works best for me. I've got my bike in a rad place called the "Moto Dojo" that's home to a group of about 30 riders and we can use it as our jump off point. It's a collective style place and has every tool you could need to fix your bike(plus lifts) and I'll be a key-carrying member by then so I can get you in any time while you're here...if so needed.

NorCoaster 07-27-2016 02:34 PM

I think my idea for a 425mi loop around northern MN is the only route fully mapped out right now...

FM-USA 07-27-2016 05:17 PM

I'm afraid that one is going to be too far for me to attend. :(

That's a bit long for a day ride. Keep 'em around 200 a day. That'll still be about a 10 hour ride with lunch, breaks, and a little sight seeing.

cruiser 07-27-2016 06:39 PM

Pretty sure I can make those dates work.
Are you splitting the route over two days?
Meet Friday evening somewhere in Duluth?
Lodging? Rough schedule, any other details
for people to plan from?

jwhughes3 07-27-2016 06:56 PM

though i am probably not attending I will comment anyway - Greg is right - to get in stops and pics and not just riding in a line that 425miles needs to be split up over 2 days with an early stop for lodging, dinner, beers etc.

RIding together is kinda the side benefit - socializing is the reason for the rally and its hard to do on the back of the bike.

Find the worlds largest frying pan or some americana weird stuff to ride between that offers a place to stop and place for pics.

CHeap motel and campground co-located allows those camping to camp and those who want beds to linger nearby at the campfire until time to sleep.

Haha John your right. No largest frying pans but a number
of oddities near the route he picked.

cruiser 08-01-2016 07:17 PM

Norcoaster, I saw the weekend you picked also is the "tall ships in Duluth" weekend.
http://tallshipsduluth.com/

werdna80 08-05-2016 07:26 AM

Details?

So.... do we have the schedule narrowed down yet?
Two day ride or One day ride?
If it's a two day ride would stopping in Orr work?

NorCoaster 08-06-2016 09:27 AM

It's gotta be a two day ride with that distance and how many pit stops we'll be making. However! I came up with a secondary route that more people might be interested in. A one-way run from Duluth to La Crosse down Wisconsin 35...THE river road. And I've seen that one of you lives in Winona so you could maybe show us the fun roads going up/down/around some bluffs...?

NorCoaster 08-06-2016 09:29 AM

Or we could run from La Crosse to Duluth and end with tall ship, great beer, and a safe place to park bikes at the cycle collective I'm a part of.

NorCoaster 08-08-2016 01:26 PM

Only 11 days away fellas! Which route should we take?

BIG DISCLAIMER : Over 300k people are expected in Duluth for the tall ships and the city has only 90k for population...

cruiser 08-08-2016 07:32 PM

Yes, lots of good roads I know from Nelson Wi to Prairie du Chein Wi. Both sides of the Missisippi. I have tentative plans to host another lost rally, summer 2017 in this area like past ones.
I have to work on Friday and Monday so will need to be heading back mid-day Sunday from where ever we are. Duluth is a 4hr ride from Winona the quick way.
I had a few others interested but circumstances have changed with them now.

werdna80 08-09-2016 07:17 PM

I'm up for whatever, just let me know where and when to show up!

NorCoaster 08-12-2016 01:19 PM

Let's go south to north. Sure, it'll be a **** show of people here, but you get the ending of seeing the big lake in all it's glory.

NorCoaster 08-12-2016 01:21 PM

La Crosse to Duluth...

NorCoaster 08-14-2016 12:30 PM

Alright. Saturday, August 20th. Only six days away. Let's meet at, say, 10am? And let's meet at either Stolpa's Stein Haus(my favorite bar in La Crosse and they open at 10a) for a quick meet and greet drink or at Riverside Park.

NorCoaster 08-14-2016 12:50 PM

Here's the route that I think would be the most ideal in terms of both scenery and abundance of fun, twisty roads. I am more than open to interpretation of it if we're lacking on daylight though

La Crosse to Duluth

Now I gotta pray that my stator gasket gets here in time because my bonehead self forgot to order it until yesterday
