I just opened mine up and the springs were wound...

I just opened mine up and the springs were wound tighter at the top. I'm the 2nd owner. My findings seem to mimic what others have found.

At the very least it can't hurt.

I'm going to try lubing the splines from the zerk fitting. The manual calls for NLGI #2M but that was written some 36 years ago.

Pingle's are pricey but it's worth it not to have to worry about gas leaking in the garage, flooded carbs, contaminated oil.
I suspect this problem to be the biggest...

Test Ride results so far

took a n 8 mile ride yesterday and an 18 mile ride this morning and so far so good. going to ride again after breakfast.
