Hey, isn't the charging system on the other side...

Hey, isn't the charging system on the other side for an XJ? The pickups would sense the timing plate going in reverse, no? Maybe it doesn't matter at all.

I have taken apart two 80 Special carbs and one 81H carb set where none have been apart before. ALL had 110 mains. None of those had the rubber plugs. (None of the 80ís were the transitional carbs...

I got my set from ebay and they included wires...

I got my set from ebay and they included wires and plug caps. They were a lot less $US but were a pain to install them.

Dielectric grease on battery terminals is great. That grease in connector clips tends to collect a lot of dust and dirt when you have 2.5 miles of dirt road to access pavement.

Very true. Also, strange things can happen with a worn-out exhaust baffle. It can be an rpm range trouble.

There are no threads around the fuel valve body. It is supposed to have a fiber-washer gasket if it is a 78 carb, not an o-ring. I suspect you have a transitional 78/80 carb bank.
