Anywhere I can get a fuel tank gasket for my 80 SG? It is cracked and not liking that.

Which one? There are two, one for the sending unit and one for the filler cap. Sending unit gasket you would have to get from Yamaha, the cap gasket, MikesXS has them.

Hi oldyam,
gas cap gasket is the same one as an XS650 so MikesXS got 'em.
Alas that Mike's current batch of rubber parts is rubbish.
Try Boats or elsewhere for better stuff.

Years ago you could not even tell MIKES XS you had an 1100 as he wouldn't deal with people that told him that. Been years since I dealt with him. The gasket has 3 screws it looks like holding it on.

New From China $15

You can buy a whole new cap from China for about $15, check e-bay.
If so inclined, you can just pull out the gasket and put it in your OEM cap.

Personally, I have a couple of these Chinese caps on my XS11's (Currently own 5). Most of the caps on my machines were all rusty and crappy.

NO, the quality is not the same as the OEM but it's more than sufficient to hold the gas in the tank and properly vent the tank.

Just my 2-cents.

Question ?

I've often wondered if you can transplant the original lock onto the new tank cap replica, so the key will match.

The fuel cap seal is available OEM. All of the Specials use the same one. XS11, XS850, XS750, XS650. If you buy OEM, it should last 35 years.

Hi Mike,
the locks on my original Yamaha & MikesXS replica gas caps all swap no problem
so I'd suppose the lock on a Chinese replica would swap too.
Or there's always plan 2:-
Strip out the replica lock's wards, file the keyslot straight and open it with any key at all. Or a screwdriver.

I did something similar to an old F-150 back in the day. Eventually the ignition cylinder crumbled and I had to jump it under the hood. I was always a little afraid it was still in gear, but I was also young, cheap, and careless.
