i bought 4 rebuild kits for my 80 xs 1100 sg carbs. they sent 4 125's 4 120's and 2 110's i was hoping to go 110's across the board with stock air cleaner. i was gonna put the old jets back but i think i mixed em up and i cant read japanese. so 120's across the board ????

You shouldn't have to read Japanese, just need a strong magnifying glass to look at the head of the jet...should be able to see the numbers for their sizes 110/120, etc.! 120's are 4 sizes richer than 110's, and if your plugs looked good with the 110s, then you could have problems with the 120's, and could have fun tuning ie, raising floats and/or moving slide needle a notch higher, both to lean it a little!?

However, the bikes were jetted a bit lean in the later years for the EPA, and allegedly some were set up with staggered 110/120/120/110's! YMMV.

I also am in the process of restoring an 80 XS1100SG. When I took my carbs apart they had 110 across the board and the pilot air jets where at 4 turns out. What I did was to order two 115's from Mikesxs and install 110 115 115 110 across the board. The original 4 turns out was much to rich and I ended up at about 1.25-1.50 turns out and it runs and idles very nice now. If you were to go with the 110's for all, I think it would be alot less hassel with adjusting your air pilot jets.

I guess it "wasnt" written in japanese, sorry, my bad, must have been the rum and cokes talking. :) the original jets were 110's across the board so I put them back in.

The only thing i used from the rebuild kits were the float needle and seat.

I wanted to replace the pilot screw but they look fine and I didnt want to unseat the washer, spring, etc,

initially I cleaned the carbs and put them back, 3 out of 4 idled just fine but the bike stalled with any twist of the throttle. the only difference this time is that I drilled out the passage in the float bowl. (the passage that draws from the bottom of the bowl) its not clogged now!!!

Georgefix's kits are listed for a SG, but the furnished jetting is for a G. Those came stock with 110/120/120/110 jets.

You really should pull the idle (pilot) screws to clean them... mine had crud in there...

Drilling the float bowls is a bad thing; there's a small restrictor jet down that hole in the bowl which you probably removed. It may be hopelessly rich on 'choke' now, you may be in the market for another set of bowls...

it seems to run really good now.... it was a tiny drill bit.... is it just the choke circuit I screwed up???? uhhg what if i am not using the choke? did it affect normal operation???

The only effect will be on the enrichener (choke) circuit; you may not have a two-step choke now....:eek:
