Hard bag brackets

I just bought a set of hard bags off ebay that supposedly came off a 78' and the owner may or may not have the brackets. I have an 81 special. Would the brackets do me any good if he could find them, or will I have to find a way to mount them myself? Any suggestions?

The Standard and Special brackets are very close and should fit each others frames with minimal modification.

I've got 79 F, and I will be taking mine apart for painting...let me know if you need pics or measurements...

Thanks. Just pulled my bike out today. We still have snow up here:(. Waiting for the bags to show up, hopefully with brackets.
