Cut a piece of thin 1/8" or 1/4" plastic or wood to cover the hole for the sending unit.

Drill four holes in the piece to match the four bolt holes in the tank.

Use the four stock bolts...

Oakback,

Maybe someone creamed the tank and left the fuel sender in it. Did the sealer only stick to the float or was it globbed all over the metal housing and the float arm too?

Cy, you do have to remove the front bezel to take out the gauge or to paint the needle.

I'm not sure what kind of paint it would take but no hacksaw.... :D

Yep, you got it, Skids, I have a bunch of the darned things along with several speedometers.

All of the spare tachometers have bad fuel gauges that broke just beyond the anchor for the bi-metallic...

It took about an hour and a half off and on as I was working on the '79. Most of the time was just playing around with the Paint.NET image editor...
