Very Nice!! The purist around here keep it real. In fact, other than a few folks wanting to keep their rare Midnight Specials in pure stock conditions, no body really care. We just hate to hear about folks parting these awesome bikes out.

not too shabby, need a seat cover

Wher'd you find that rear taillight? I like it.

(p.s. when adding replys, click the send reply button at the bottom, and not the new topic, keeps from flooding the forum that way. )

Are you running mono shock? Did you do any structural changes to support it? What is the light colored line going forward above the engine on the side view? Whats up with the exhaust?

my project

i did all kinds of relocating. its kinda like i want this here but this is in the way, ican move this here then this here, and next thing i knew i was in pretty deep. bottom mount for shock is stock location. top was changed. shock is from a cbr600. the line is for an oil cooler from a seca. just retapped the hookups on motor for pipe thread and put in fittings for -6 line. them tapped into line for oil pressure gauge. i am glad to see people approving of my bike. i hate parting things out myself. my wife says i have separation disorder, as i have trouble parting ANYTHING. this 80 special was on its way to the parts department on ebay also about 6 years ago. i just now got around to digging into it about 6 moonths ago. it has around 15000 on it. it was complete untouched bike but sat outside i bet around 15 years

exhaust started out as a kerker, but i wanted a certain look so i ended up cutting it up into pieces as you see it looks kinda like a block hugger header on a car engine. its not done yet. i got one of those oil filter adapters on it too works good. kerker header also wasnt gonna clear the stock filter can.

Are you making the exhaust completely by yourself?

Hey Virgin,

I merged your other replies with this thread. You probably didn't realize that you were hitting the NEW THREAD button, instead of the REPLY button! You need to be reading or IN the thread you want to reply to and THEN click the REPLY button to add additional posts to an existing thread!

I hope your headers work for you. I remember reading in a thread about the recommended length of the header pipes that should be about 3 feet long before merging with the others in a collector to have proper scavenging effect?

I know car engines have had headers that collected right beside the block about 1 foot away from the exhaust ports, and they seem to work okay, but don't know if you may experience any performance loss/hit with those short headers? Keep at it, and keep posting pictures, we like pictures!
T.C.
